In March 2022, Volkswagen confirmed that the rumored global VW Tayron is in the pipeline. In an announcement about approving the new VW Trinity factory in Wolfsburg-Warmenau, Germany (these plans are now under review), the company elaborated on the decision to manufacture the forthcoming electric sedan at a new factory instead of the main plant in Wolfsburg. One of the reasons was that this would ensure that the Trinity production does not disrupt ongoing series production or ramp-ups of core models “such as the Tiguan and Tayron or the Golf facelift scheduled for the coming years” at the Wolfsburg plant.
In June 2023, Karl-Heinz Hell, the head of engineering for Volkswagen’s mid-to-full-size models, reaffirmed the next-gen Tayron will be a global model, Autocar reported on June 15, 2023. The first-gen model has a coupe version called Tayron X, and the next-gen model will also have a coupe version, the British publication said, while also adding that the redesigned derivative will be available in North America
Volkswagen is not under pressure to discontinue the Tiguan Allspace, but rather, is choosing to capitalize on its recent success by introducing a distinct standalone model. According to a report by Autocar on April 25, 2023, the Tayron will differ significantly from the five-seat Tiguan and the Tiguan Allspace
