The Mercedes-Benz C-Class will gain an electric option at the middle of the decade, new reports suggest, coinciding with the second generation of the EQC mid-size electric SUV.

Industry publication Automotive News reports Mercedes-Benz’s US division has briefed its dealers on the two new models, which are due in showrooms “around 2025” – making the first-generation EQC currently sold in Australia and Europe six years old by the time it is replaced, following its overseas launch in mid-2019.

The electric C-Class and second-generation EQC will become the smallest zero-emission Mercedes-EQ models ever sold in the US, as the circa-400km driving range of the first-generation EQC – currently offered in Australia, based on the same platform as the petrol-powered GLC – was deemed to be too low for American consumption.
